I can only see a hand full of events in my list, I know I have more than that.
You probably have filtering turned on. The sole purpose of filtering is to limit what
appears in the list based on subType values you selected for display. Look at the
status line at the bottom of Event Masters main window. If it contains the phrase
[Filtering On], turn filtering off by pressing Ctrl-F and then selecting the Disable
button from the resulting dialog. Another possibility is that you may have used the
View only Selected (F5) search command. This command limits the list to displaying
only those objects which contain the search string in their titles or within the bodies of attached notes. Look at Event Master's status line, if it contains the phrase [Results of Search], select the Refresh command to restore the list back to it previous state.
I changed the date on an event from December to January. Why doesn't event move to the top of the list with the other events which have January dates.
Event Master display its list of objects using the current sort sequence. For example, if the Event list view is chosen and you select the Date header button, pressing it until a + sign appears in the Date header button, you know that the list of events are sorted in ascending order on the Date field. However, when you change an object and the change is made to the field which is currently selected as the sort field (in this case the Date field), and the alteration changes the object relative location with respect to the other objects in the list, you must select the Refresh command to position the changed object to its new location based on its new sort value. This enables you to make all your changes first and then reposition the objects to their correct location using the Refresh command. Prior to release 2.2, objects were automatically repositioned immediately after their sort field was changed. Thus if you were at the bottom of the list and changed a date from December to January, it would disappear from view immediately and you would have to stroll towards the top of the list to see it along with the other events with a January date. This could be quit bothersome, especially if you weren't done changing the item.
I added a new event the Event Masters list. Why is it being displayed out of sequence.
When you create a new object (event, note or alarm) and Event Master is currently displaying objects of that type (i.e. you add an event while in Event list view), the object is positioned within the list so that it falls within view. Thus if you want to inspect or change the object you just added, it's easily to obtain because it's within view. This means that newly added objects are usually out of sequence with respect to the current sort order. Once you are done making any changes to the new added object, simply select the Refresh menu command to place it (and any other out of sequence objects) back into proper order. Note: If filtering is turn on and you add an object which would normally be excluded from view due to filtering (that is the new object doesn't have a subType field value equal to one of the filters chosen for display) it will still be displayed within view in the list so that you can alter it if you like. Selecting the Refresh command removes its from the list because filtering dictates that it should be excluded (filtered out). Once the Refresh command is chosen you will have to turn filtering off or add a filter with the same value as the subType field in order to see the object back in the list. Of course you can always used the Search Database function to retrieve the object regardless of the object type(events, notes or alarms) or subType(i.e. Birthdays, Meetings, Recipes) currently being displayed.
I get an Out of Space message and the program ends.
When the drive containing your database becomes full, Event Master abends with a fatal error. Before restarting Event Master, you should make room on the hard drive in question by removing any old obsolete files. If you do not make room on the hard drive, Event Master will abend again with the same fatal error upon its next invocation.
I performed a search for a string which I know exists in one of my notes but the search came back empty.
Event Master has a number of different search functions. The first three: Find (F2), Find Next (F3), and Find and Open (F4), only search the current list of objects for the given string. Thus if you have [Filter On] the object your searching for may not exist in the list your searching because it doesn't have a subType value equal to one of those specified in the active list of filters. You can either turn filter off or use one of the other search functions. Search Database (F6) searches all object in Event Master's database for the given string thus it is note affected by filtering. The same is true for the View only Selected (F5) search function (a function which limits the list to displaying only those objects found containing the search string).
Sometimes my shortcut keys (i.e. Ctrl-Q) don't work.
The Windows operating system is capable of displaying many different windows at once. Only one, however, is capable of receiving keyboard strokes at a time. That window is said to have input focus. You can tell it apart from the other windows because it's the only window with a highlighted title bar. If Event Master's main window does not have input focus then it will not receive the shortcut keys. The simplest way to give it input focus is to select its title bar with the left mouse button.
